Tire Pressure in Summer and Hurricane Season

Summer tire pressure and hurricane season in Palm Beach County. Use your door placard, not a made-up number. Los Paisas, 1114 S Military Trl. (561) 429-4041.

Tire pressure in a Palm Beach County summer is a cold-morning number that the afternoon will change. Los Paisas Tires Shop will not print a PSI figure on this page. Your car already has the number, on the placard in the driver's door jamb, and it is not the same for every vehicle that parks at 1114 S Military Trl. If the placard is missing, call (561) 429-4041 and bring the car. We will not guess a pressure for a car we have not seen.

Why summer air pressure changes in the car

Air expands as it warms. A tire set in the cool morning will read higher after a drive on hot pavement. That rise is expected. It is not, by itself, a reason to let air out in a gas-station lot at 3 p.m. If you bleed a hot tire down to the cold placard number, you will be underinflated the next morning, and an underinflated tire flexes, builds more heat, and wears the shoulders.

The opposite mistake is ignoring a tire that is low before you ever drive. Heat will not "fill it in." A tire that starts low stays the most stressed tire on the car. In West Palm Beach that shows up as a soft feel, a shoulder that wears, or a flat you discover when you need the car.

Check pressure cold, before a long drive, with a gauge you trust more than the sticker on an old gas pump. The number you are aiming at is the placard, not the maximum pressure molded into the sidewall. The sidewall number is a limit for the tire, not the setting for your car.

Check the placard, not a number we invent here

The placard usually lists a front pressure and a rear pressure, and sometimes a different number when the car is loaded. Use the one that matches how you drive. A compact car and a loaded truck do not share a setting, which is why this shop will not publish one county-wide PSI.

If you just had new tires or used tires mounted, we set them before you leave, using your placard. Tell us if the placard is gone or if you are running a size that is not what the car was built with. A wrong size is a conversation, not a silent adjustment.

A tire-pressure light is a clue, not a diagnosis. It can mean a slow leak, a nail, a temperature swing, or a sensor that is unhappy. Do not clear the light by adding a random amount of air and forgetting it. If the same tire needs air every few days, you have a leak. That belongs on the repair page: we find it, and we vulcanize it only when the hole is in a safe part of the tread.

Hurricane season: what to look at before a storm

Hurricane season in Palm Beach County is a reason to look at the tires before the weather, not during the evacuation traffic. This shop is not a shelter and it is not open all night. Hours stay 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days, until a real closure we would have to tell you about by phone. Do not assume we are open in the middle of a warning because a website once said "open daily."

Before a storm, the useful tire check is ordinary and specific:

  • Cold pressure against the door placard, including the spare if you still have one
  • Sidewall cracks or bubbles you have been ignoring
  • Tread that is already too thin to trust on wet roads
  • A slow leak you have been topping off
  • The jack and the spare actually present, not a story about a spare that was borrowed

Wet roads punish a bald tire. A spare that is also flat is not a plan. If the spare is a temporary one, know that it is temporary. We can look at it at the shop. We will not promise it is fine from a paragraph.

If you are choosing between a cracked used tire and waiting, do the errand before the forecast tightens. Used versus new in this heat is an inspection, not a slogan. There is still no price list. Call and ask about the size.

When low pressure is actually a puncture

A tire that was correct yesterday and is flat this morning picked up something, or it has a leak at the bead or the valve. Look for a nail in the tread if you can do that without putting yourself in traffic. Then stop driving on it. A short drive on a folding sidewall is how a patchable nail becomes a tire we have to replace.

Mobile service is available within 10 miles of 1114 S Military Trl when you cannot drive. Greenacres, Palm Springs, and Lake Worth Beach are inside that area. Call and give the address. We do not drive the van through a storm to prove a point, and we do not work in a flooded street. If the weather is already on you, the safe choice may be to wait until we can both get there, not to meet on a shoulder.

Where to have the tires checked

Come to Los Paisas Tires Shop, 1114 S Military Trl, West Palm Beach, FL 33415, between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Phone and WhatsApp (561) 429-4041. English or Spanish. Bring the car cold if you want the reading to match the placard. If you arrive with hot tires, we can still find a leak. We will not pretend a hot reading is the cold setting.

Balancing and alignment are separate from a pressure check. A shake is often balance. A pull is often alignment. Low pressure can mimic both if one tire is doing all the flexing. We will say which problem we are looking at.

Questions about pressure and storms

What PSI should I run in West Palm Beach?

The PSI on your door placard. This page will not replace it with a single number. If the sticker is missing, call the shop and bring the car.

Should I let air out on a hot afternoon?

Not to chase the cold placard number. Heat raised the pressure. Let the tire cool and check again. Let air out only if a cold reading is actually above the placard.

Will you be open during a hurricane warning?

Do not assume it. Call (561) 429-4041. Our normal hours are 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days, and a storm can change whether the road and the bay are a safe place to work. Check before you drive.
